Reed OHE provides independent occupational hygiene and WHS consulting services to industry, government and the private sector. Our consultants are Certified Occupational Hygienists (COH®) with extensive experience across occupational hygiene, environmental health and workplace risk management.

The main areas we service are the Blue Mountains, Hawkesbury, Western Sydney, and Wollongong. Enquiries can be made for other areas such as regional NSW.

Occupational Hygiene Services Provided

Respiratory Protection Fit Testing

Reed OHE Pty Ltd provides workplace respirator fit testing services as required by AS/NZS 1715 following the procedures specified in AS/NZS ISO 16975.3:2023 or OSHA 1910.134.

Services include:

  • Quantitative and qualitative respirator fit testing

  • Respiratory protection program reviews

  • Selection of appropriate respiratory protective equipment

  • Training in the correct use, care and maintenance of respirators

Air Monitoring

The Certified Occupational Hygienists (COH)® have over 45 years’ experience in occupational exposure monitoring in a range of industries.

Occupational exposure monitoring includes assessing environments which may have exposures to:

  • Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC's)

  • Particulates

Indoor Air Quality

A typical Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Assessment may consist of the following:

  • Building inspections to identify the potential sources of poor indoor air quality

  • Measurement of ventilation rates in air conditioning systems

  • Measurement of carbon dioxide levels to determine if sufficient fresh air rate supplied to remove unpleasant odours and other internally generated pollutants.

  • Measurement of noxious gases, such as carbon monoxide, ozone and formaldehyde; and volatile organic compounds (VOC’s) and airborne fungal and bacteria levels

  • Measurement of airborne particulate levels

  • Measurement of thermal comfort

  • Use of questionnaires can be used to determine the sources of the poor indoor air quality.

Hazardous Chemical Assessment

Reed OHE Pty Ltd can assistance employers in the conducting of hazardous chemical risk assessments. In this process employers are required to:

  • Obtain current SDSs, from the suppliers, for all substances used in the workplace and arrange that employees have access to the SDSs

  • Ensuring that all containers of all substances are correctly labelled, including those into which a substance has been decanted for use

  • Develop and keep current a hazardous substances’ register

  • Arrange for a risk assessment to be undertaken of all processes that use substance/s and make them available to employees

  • When required, arrange for appropriate health surveillance and biological monitoring be undertaken

Noise Assessment and Hearing Conservation

Noise assessments are undertaken according to AS/NZS 1269 including:

  • Identify employees whose exposure to noise is likely to exceed above specified levels .

  • Determining and obtaining what information is required on noise sources and work practices to determine what actions are required to reduce noise to acceptable levels,

  • Undertake noise measurements to determine if the control measures implemented are adequate,

  • Assist in the selection of personal hearing protection as an interim control measure,

  • Determine which areas need to be defined as hearing protection areas until the noise levels can be reduced.

Occupational Hygiene Management Systems

We assist organisations to develop practical systems that support ongoing management of workplace health risks and compliance with legislative requirements.

Dr Sue Reed AM

PhD, MSc, MEngSc, BSc, COH, FAIOH

Dr Sue Reed AM is the current company director and Principal Occupational Hygienist at Reed OHE, with over 45 years experience in the field of occupational health and safety with particular interest in occupational hygiene, including over 40 years in:

  • the development and analysis of results of health studies in the explosives industry, indoor air quality and the development of a new method to monitor skin exposure to chemicals. 

  • leading a number of consultancies and research projects in relation to workers exposures to a range of hazards.

  • monitoring of air quality including dust levels for both inspirable and respirable dust levels. 

  • Sue has co-authored book chapters and author or co-authored over 45 papers and conference presentations.

Pam Estreich

BSSc, MOHS

Pam Estreich is the Principal Occupational Health and Safety Consultant at Reed OHE. Pam has worked at Reed OHE team for over 10 years and brings:

  • over 35 years of experience in health and safety in a range of government agencies, health, commercial, community services, consumers and construction/mining industries.

  • her experience in promoting and providing a superior level of technical and specialist advice in Work Health and Safety, Workers Compensation and Injury Management best practice to ensure compliance to the legislation.

Pam has actively worked :

  • with Industry Groups, Unions and senior managements in providing technical information and guidance on workers compensation/injury management issues tissues. Some of these industries include Health, Community, Funeral, and Consumer Services. She also has experience in investigations and compiling prosecution briefs and Coroner reports.

  • in curriculum development and training programs for health, safety and workers compensation/injury management, and business studies. She has worked within both TAFE and a number of Universities providing a high standard of learning opportunities for both face and online learners, aligned with the accreditation requirements and in line with the National Competencies.

Dr Adelle Liebenberg

PhD, M Sci, B Sci, COH, FAIOH

  • Dr Adélle Liebenberg is a Certified Occupational Hygienist (COH®), Fellow of the Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists (FAIOH), and Senior Lecturer in Occupational Hygiene at the University of Wollongong. She has almost 20 years' experience in occupational hygiene consulting, research and education.

  • Her experience spans mining, manufacturing and other industrial environments, with particular interests in occupational exposure assessment, respiratory protection, hearing conservation and the practical application of occupational hygiene principles.

  • Adélle combines consulting experience with an active research program, enabling her to provide clients with practical, evidence-based advice that reflects current industry knowledge and best practice.
